Nellie Stroud Obituary

Nellie Privette Stroud, age 90, a resident of The Gardens of Statesville, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 surrounded by members of her family and under the care of Gordon Hospice House.

Born July 2, 1929 in Wilkes County, North Carolina to Noah and Myrtle Anderson Privette, she relocated to Cool Spring, North Carolina with her family in the early 1940’s.  On November 1, 1947 she married William A. Stroud of Cool Spring, North Carolina and remained a devoted wife of 67 years until his death on October 21, 2014.

She was a waitress at the Chat’n Nibble Restaurant and a seamstress at Stimson Hosiery Mill.  In addition, she was a tireless homemaker who enjoyed assisting her husband William with creative projects on their property in Cool Spring.  She found tremendous pleasure working in their garden and tending to her flowers as well as sewing, quilting and crocheting.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that helped to raise three generations of her family and would tell many stories of the adventures of her and her siblings’ childhood in Wilkes County and Cool Spring.   She was a devout Christian and would always find solace in reading her Bible for hours at a time.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Myrtle Privette as well as her husband William A. Stroud, three brothers; Lake Privette, Arkie Privette, Bidford Privette, sister; Reba Ricco, an infant sister, Stella Privette and a great-grandchild, Austin James Baker.

She is survived by two sisters; Willa Hinson and Phoebe Lindley; four sisters-in-law, Sylvia Privette, Barbara Privette, Lucille Stroud, and Martha Cash; three children, Allen Stroud (Teresa), Wayne Stroud (Jane) and Teresa Cook (Michael); seven grandchildren, Angie Bass (Jamie), David Stroud (Ivy), Lorrie Warren (Brad), Carrie Reavis (David), Robert Colvert (Leslie), Doug Cook (Nikki), and Chris Stroud; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, July 19, 2019 at Troutman Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30-2:00 pm at Troutman Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Stroud, Doug Cook, David Stroud, Ben Stroud, Cody Bass, Robert Colvert and Brice Warren. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Bass, Matthew Baker, Brad Warren, Jamie Bass and David Reavis.

A very special thank you to the staff and friends at the Gardens of Statesville, Dr. Roger A. Hatharasinghe and his staff, as well as the staff and volunteers at Gordon Hospice House for their care, love, and support.
