Jeanne Braly Obituary

Jeanne LaMotte Mason Macon Braly died peacefully on October 27, 2018, at Longview Healthcare Center in Manchester, MD, at the age of 95.

Jeanne is survived by her three children, Genevieve Harris of Hampstead, MD, William Macon, Jr. of Montgomery Village, MD, and Robert Macon of Baker City, OR; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and her sisters, Nancy Keith of Wayland, MA, and Peggy Lindborg of Edina, MN.  She is preceded in death by her brothers John Mason of Albuquerque, NM, and Lawrence Mason of Statesville, NC, and her sister Ruth Thomas of Paris, VA; and her husband of 35 years William Macon, Sr., of Baltimore, MD, and her husband of 10 years Roy Braly of Baltimore, MD.

Jeanne was born on September 22, 1923, in Statesville, NC, to Rueben and Mary Mason. She graduated from Mitchell College in 1942 and moved to Washington, D.C., to work as a secretary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During WWII, Jeanne was recognized for selling war bonds and attended a celebration at the home of Evelyn Walsh McLean where she had an opportunity to wear the now enshrined Hope Diamond.  She met her husband William Macon at the SS New Bern Victory (MCV-639) ship launching in Baltimore and they were married in Statesville in 1946 before settling in New Bern, NC.

After moving to Baltimore in 1952, Jeanne was a homemaker until she returned to secretarial work at Mount Wilson State Hospital in 1970 and then Baltimore County Public Schools in 1975 where she retired after 30 years of service.  With her husband William Macon, the couple welcomed three children into their home who remember Jeanne as a kind and gentle mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Jeanne was an active and dedicated member of Ames and Sudbrook Methodist churches of Pikesville, MD, and often volunteered at church functions.  She enjoyed playing the piano into her final years and was renowned for her lemon bars and pound cake.

A family gathering is scheduled for June 6 in Westminster, MD, with a Memorial Service to follow on June 8 at Snow Creek United Methodist Cemetery in Statesville, NC.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jeanne's life.  Condolences may be added to the Tribute Wall above.  The family would also like to thank the staffs at Longview Healthcare Center and Augsburg Village retirement community in Baltimore for their care of Jeanne during her final years.
