I remember Mrs. Pero from the library, the original one on Broad St. near the college. I also remember her and Mr. Pero from my days on the swim team at Grace Park in the late 60’s. She was the active one and her husband, the calmer one , as I remember. They gave me rides to all the away meets. John, of course, was the champion swimmer; I was just average, but loved the friendship and the challenge. I’m very sorry, John, for the loss of your sweet mother. She was a lot of fun!

Jean - Ms. Pero was a neighbor of my aunt's, Mildred McLester, and my aunt always thought so much of Jean and their friendship.  When I moved back to Statesville, I became interested in reactivating the Friends of the Library and worked with Jean to do that and had so much fun working on the children's programs.  She was a special lady who made you feel special.  She had a twinkle in her eye and she contributed so much to Statesville. She will be missed.
