Don Scott Kelly, 63, of Charlotte, NC passed away on April 15th, 2023, surrounded by family and close friends at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House. Don is survived by wife Sandra Hawes Kelly, daughters Anne Kelly Churchill (Jeremy), Megan Kelly, and grandson Anderson Churchill. Don is also survived by his mother Peggy Robbins Kelly and four siblings Lynn Kelly (Carol), Jane Summers (Ray), Jeff Kelly (Jane), Amy Fiemster, and many wonderful nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Don is preceded in death by his father William "Keith" Kelly. Don was a man of God who put his faith at the forefront of every aspect of life.
This was the lens through which Don viewed his work. It was important for him to align his career with his faith and values, which is what led him to helping nonprofits with the financial side of their organizations. Don was good at cleaning up any mess he came across and it was no different in the business world where he found ways to empower his employees to be the best versions of themselves. Don loved to be outside on the golf course or hiking his favorite mountain trail. He lived for spending time with Sandra and the kids, playing with Anderson, hanging out with friends, and getting together with family in Troutman.
After being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer back in August of 2021, Don made the most of every day he was given by God. We are grateful for Dr. Jennifer Dallas and her team at Oncology Specialists of Charlotte, who helped him navigate his 20 month treatment of cancer. We also want to thank the amazing staff at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House for the love and care they provided in Don's last days.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dieter Punt officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service, 2:00 to 3:00 pm.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to either Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County (2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625) or Bible Study Fellowship (Global Headquarters, 19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78258).
