On August 31, 1958, she married her beloved husband Theodore Hawkins, together they shared almost 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2018. Bunnie and Ted were members of the Cantamos Choir for 14 years, and at one time they were honored to sing in the Billy Graham Crusade in Charlotte. Together they made the pilgrimage in the Via De Cristo. A faithful member of Hebron Baptist Church, Bunnie also proudly served as Parish Administrator with Pressley Memorial ARP church, retiring in 2011. Her deep faith called her to a life of service including being president of the Statesville Women’s Club, a member of the Statesville Christian Women’s Club, the Junior Service League, and volunteering with Iredell Memorial Hospital, Teen Challenge, the Statesville Little Theater, as well as being a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Bunnie enjoyed playing tennis, volleyball, softball, the handbells, and was a professional baker.
