William "Bill" Edward Stevenson

February 15, 1933 - September 28, 2018 William "Bill" Edward Stevenson, 85, of Statesville passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 after a period of declining health. Bill was born February 15, 1933 in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, Canada to the late Olaf Edward and Ellen Mary Stevenson. Before his retirement, Bill was employed at Beaunit Textiles in Statesville and at Nissan Textiles in Charlotte. After retirement, Bill worked part-time at Lakewood Golf Course and he devoted much of his time to volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and the Troutman Wood Ministries. Helping others was Bill’s passion and he was known to many as "Uncle Bill." In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert, and a sister, Barbara. His family who will always adore him include his beloved wife, Ellen; two sons, Richard and wife Cindy, and Kenneth; two daughters, Margaret Allen and Jan Mason; three grandchildren, Sumayya (Jennifer) Allen, Michael Allen, and Dustin Mason; three great-grandchildren, Safiyyah, Ismail, and Umar Sanchez; two sisters, Shirley Monsebraaten and husband Arthur, Norma Gronning and husband Clancy, and brother-in-law Byron Cutcliffe; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Troutman Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dan Hazen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William "Bill" Stevenson’s memory to Troutman Wood Ministries, P.O.
