William David Nash

Mr. William David Nash, 89, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at his home. Born April 2, 1930 in Iredell County, he was the son of the late William Pryor Nash and Mary Etta Benfield Nash. He was a graduate of Celeste Henkel High School.  Mr. Nash proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War where he received the distinguished Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars.  He married Gwendolyn Jones Nash, the love of his life, and celebrated 67 years of marriage.  He worked at Southern Screw Company, Liberty Life Insurance Company, and was retired from Rubbermaid, Inc.  He was a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, R.A. Leader, and Training Union Secretary.

In addition to his wife, those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Cherie Nash of Statesville; one son, Brent Nash of Statesville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Mr. Nash was preceded in death by one son, Michael Nash and one sister, Oleta Nash Becker.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 3:00 pm at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Henry Cook and Rev. Brian Burgess officiating.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Troutman Funeral Home. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. James Foushee for his care and support of David for many years. Memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.  Online condolences may be made to the family at http://www.troutmanfuneralhome.com .
