William Horace Hayes

June 18, 1927 - April 11, 2018 William "Horace" Hayes, 90, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a period of declining health. Horace was born on June 18, 1927 in Iredell County to the late parents, William Greenberry Hayes and Eula Mae Myers Hayes. Horace attended Harmony High School and was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church. He worked at Southern Screw for over 38 years. He loved farming, boating, hunting and going to listen to gospel singing. Horace was a devoted family man, who put his wife, daughter, and grandchildren first before everything else. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 and a half years, Barbara Tucker Hayes; daughter, Lavonda (Allen) Hayes Nicholson; sisters, Camilla Thompson and Genoa Taylor, grandchildren, Jeniene Nicholson and Adrianne (Dwayne) Nicholson, great-grandchildren, Alaina Smith, Adalynn Nicholson, and Kedan Nicholson, brother in law, Roger Snow, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Norma Snow, Olean Ellis, and Ulean Snow; two brothers, A.G. Hayes and Norris Hayes; five half-brothers, and two half-sisters. The family is accepting visitors at their residence. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Diamond Hill Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Larry Holleman and Rev. Jeff Luxon officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Iredell Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Robbie Holland, Darius Deaton, Marian Bell, James Orbison, Roger Lippard, Ed McLelland, Dwayne Nicholson, R.C. Clodfelter, and Coyte Benfield. West Iredell Lion’s Club will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Horace’s memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to Diamond Hill Baptist Church, 2320 East Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28625. The family would like to thank Hospice for the loving care they gave Horace during his last few months of life, especially the care given by Brandi Harris, Charlene Venable, Pam Gillion, Cassie Fielden, Jessica Wilkinson, Brandi Anthony, and Tracey Bell. Troutman Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for William Horace Hayes.
