Willard "Frank" Francis Lawson

Mr. Willard Francis “Frank” Lawson, Jr., 72, of Statesville, passed away, Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House.

Mr. Lawson was born April 28, 1947 in Greensboro, NC and was the son of the late Willard Francis Lawson, Sr. and Frances Lee Lawson. He was a graduate of Page High School in Greensboro, NC and East Carolina University. On June 8, 1968, he married Katherine “Kathy” Whitlock Lawson, who survives.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by two children, Kevin Lawson and wife, Mary Mc of Cincinnati, OH; Katherine “Kari” Lawson Hampton and husband, Zach of Mt. Ulla, NC; three grandchildren, Ellie Lawson, William Lawson, Nora Kate Hampton; one sister, Sue L. Causey of Greensboro and a brother-in-law, Jim Whitlock and wife, Kay of Southern Pines, NC.

While at ECU, Frank was a founding member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Theta-Pi Chapter, after graduation, he went on to work in textiles, eventually opening his own business, Lawson Paper Company, Inc., where he imported and sold laminate paper. After retiring in 2008, he loved spending time on the golf course, skeet range or in Blowing Rock with his family.

Frank loved his family and was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Fitzgerald officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
