Salisbury

Vonnie Sue Bottoms Jordan, 93, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab in Salisbury, North Carolina, following a long period of declining health.

Born on October 14, 1933, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, Vonnie was the only child of Fannie and Commie Bottoms. She graduated from Union Grove High School in 1952 and married the love of her life, Floyd N. Jordan, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage.

As Floyd pursued his career in the United States Marine Corps, the couple made homes at various duty stations across the country before eventually settling in Statesville, North Carolina. Together, they built a life centered on family, love, and the simple pleasures of being together.

Vonnie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took tremendous pride in her family. But those who knew her best will remember so much more: her striking sense of style, her beautifully coiffed hair, and the unmistakable sparkle in her eyes and smile.

She loved a good shopping trip and wasn't above returning a few purchases after having second thoughts. Fridays often meant a visit to the beauty shop and a meal at the fish camp. She cherished phone chats with friends and family near and far, visits to the country, watching her daytime stories, and staying abreast of the latest news over her morning grapefruit.

Vonnie and Floyd shared countless everyday rituals, including a pot of coffee that seemed to last all day, poured into small cups and reheated time and again.

Their home was a gathering place for family, where holidays meant laughter, the best games of Scrabble, her famous taco pie and green pistachio nut cake, and memories that would become cherished family stories.

And those fortunate enough to hear Vonnie say "I love you 10" knew it was her own special way of expressing a love beyond measure.

Vonnie was a member of Union Baptist Church in Hamptonville, North Carolina, during her childhood and later became a member of First Baptist Church on Davie Avenue in Statesville.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Floyd N. Jordan; her parents, Fannie and Commie Bottoms; her great-granddaughter, Anna Deal; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Carl and Madrid Jordan, James and Zelda Jordan, and Joe and VicaMae Jordan; and a nephew and great-nephew.

She is survived by her children, Beverly J. Deal (Frank) of Oak Island, North Carolina, and F. Michael (Mike) Jordan (Robin) of New London, North Carolina; four cherished grandchildren, David S. Deal (Regina) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Ryan J. Deal (John) of Norwalk, Connecticut, Cameron J. McKinzie (Brian) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Graham T. Jordan of Statesville, North Carolina; and four great-grandchildren, Cain Deal, Brody Deal, Parker McKinzie, and Brooks McKinzie.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab in Salisbury for the care and companionship they provided Vonnie during the eight years she called it home. The family also wishes to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County for their compassion, love, and dedication.
