Union Grove

Vera Whisnant Bowman, 77, of Union Grove, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 29, 1948, Vera was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who spent her life sharing love, faith, and kindness with all who knew her. Vera was married to Chester Bowman for many years, and together they built a family rooted in love and devotion. She worked in various administrative roles throughout her career, spending many years with Intercraft and Associated Packaging. Vera was known for her dedication and strong work ethic, but it was her unwavering commitment to her family and her faith that truly defined her. A faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Vera was an active participant in the church choir and found great joy in sharing her love of music with others. Her passion for the Lord and her faith in Him were central to her life. Vera’s greatest joy came from watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren thrive. She delighted in attending their activities, whether it was cheering at a baseball game or watching dance performances. Above all, Vera’s favorite title was "Nana," and she embraced her role as a grandmother with deep love and pride.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Alice Whisnant, as well as her brothers Fred Jr., Daniel, and James Whisnant, and her sister Ann Kanipe.

She is survived by her loving husband, Chester Bowman; children Andrew Sigmon, Anita McMillan (Darryl), and Angela Johnson (John); grandchildren Grace Cartner (Damon), Zoe McMillan (Alyssa), Katelyn Corcoran (Marco), Ian McMillan (Alexandria), Jordan Thompson (Zachary), and Taylor Johnson; and great-grandchildren Hayden Sigmon, Luca, Nash, and Annie Kate Cartner, Alice, Wickham, and Charlotte Thompson, L. Ray, Annabelle, and Hayes McMillan, and Millie, Jack, and Evan Corcoran, as well as Mila McMillan. She is also survived by brothers, Ted, Joe and Jerry Whisnant as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
