Thomas “Tommy” Edward Cook, 72, of Statesville, passed away, Monday, February 14, 2022 at his home.

Tommy was born May 1, 1949 in Iredell County and was the son of the late David Cook and Eloise Little Cook, who survives. He was a graduate of North Iredell High School and served in the US Marines. On August 21, 1971 he married Bonnie Privette Cook, who survives and together they are members of Concord Presbyterian Church. Tommy began his career 1967 with the Iredell County Rescue Squad and later became a firefighter with the Statesville Fire Department in 1971 and retired as Captain in 2006. He also joined the American Red Cross in 1967 and was awarded the Spirit of Cliff Andrews Award, which is the highest honor awarded to a Volunteer.

In addition to his wife of 50 years and mother, Tommy is survived by three children, Jennifer Santee (Sam), Benjamin Cook, Matt Cook (Megan); five grandchildren, Jacob, Carter and Cameron Webster, Carson and Colton Cook; three brothers, Michael, Dan and Jeff Cook along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Cook.

Funeral services will be held 3:00pm Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Concord Presbyterian Church with Rev. Liz Troyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Fireman Honors. The family will visit with friends following the service. Mr. Cook will lie in state Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Troutman Funeral Home.
