September 2, 1941 - October 14, 2017 Thomas Lyn Hutchins, 76, of Statesville, slipped away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at Gordon Hospice House. He was born on September 2, 1941 in Winston Salem to the late Harry Spencer and Lida Phillips Hutchins. He was a member of Mountain Road Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for the Adult Men’s Class and enjoyed taking trips with the Senior Adult church members. He was also an avid traveler before and after retirement and enjoyed many trips abroad and throughout the United States with his wife, Elizabeth. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was always there for his family. He looked forward to family gatherings when they came together on special holidays and birthdays. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in West Palm Beach, Florida, since November 1965, and was presented with his fifty year membership certificate at the Statesville Masonic Lodge on October 13, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Moore Hutchins; daughter, Tammy Hatley (Jerry) of King; son, Keith Hutchins (Mandy) of Statesville; grandchildren, Chris Hatley (Elizabeth) of Statesville, Heather Holbrook (Jimmy) of Statesville, Clint Hutchins of Statesville, Valerie McDevitt (Finn) of Vancouver, Washington, Matt Hutchins (Sarah) of Statesville, Nathan Hatley (Samantha) of Greensboro, and Carson Stewart of Statesville. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren who brought great joy to his life: Madison Hatley, Wyatt Holbrook, Julie Anne Holbrook, Maeve McDevitt, Brody Hutchins, Audrey McDevitt, Maddox Hutchins, Delilah McDevitt and Autumn Holbrook. He is also survived by a brother, Terry Hutchins (Mona) of McColl, SC; one nephew and five nieces. He will be greatly missed by all of his family. A celebration of life service will be held at Mountain Road Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jamie Fox officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Mountain Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 132 Compton Park Rd., Statesville, NC 28677.
