Ted Mills

November 1, 1946 - February 24, 2013

Terry (Ted) Wayne Mills, 66, of Statesville, entered eternal life Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Gordon Hospice House. He was born on November 1, 1946 in Iredell County to the late Homer Mills and Hazel Hoover Mills. Ted served his country proudly as a member of the United States Marine Corps serving in Vietnam and was awarded several medals during his tour of duty. He worked for the Jack B. Wooten Co. in trucking for 20 years and retired as an equipment operator with the Iredell County landfill. Ted was a very kind man who had many close friends. He enjoyed the simple yet important things in life. His hobbies included spending time with his family and friends, sitting under the shade tree, riding his four wheeler and tending to his garden. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Rick Tallent ( Meloney) of Troutman and Cindy Mills Smith (Brad) of Statesville; their mother, Kay Wallace Matthews; grandson, Dillon Tallent; brother, Don R. Mills of Statesville; sister, Wilma Mills Barker (Max) of Mooresville; and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind a special friend, Hazel Starcher, and her daughter, Jennifer. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman with the Rev. Thomas W. Corbell and Pastor Kris Kawulok officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Iredell Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held at the church from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times the family will assemble at the home of Rick and Meloney Tallent, 142 Turn Out Drive, Statesville, NC The family would like to express their special thanks to the staff of Gordon Hospice House for the care and concern shown to Ted and his family.
