Sylvia Jean Pardue Deal, 87, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Iredell Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born on July 19, 1938, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Steven Frank Pardue and Doris Rimmer Pardue. She was a 1956 graduate of Statesville High School and was married to Jack Ross Deal, who preceded her in death on July 28, 2016. Jean worked in the banking industry for 26 years as a customer service representative. She began her career with Merchants & Farmers Bank and later worked with Nations Bank and Bank of America before retiring.
Jean was a devoted member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church, where she was active with the Women’s Circle. She enjoyed spending time playing games with her sister Kay and Aunt Margie, which brought her much joy. Jean loved watching the beauty of sunsets and cherished the quiet moments of watching sunrises while spending time in her morning devotions. Her faith and appreciation for life’s simple blessings were evident to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a sister, Frankie Pardue Sherrill and sister-in-law, Bettie Deal Nesbit.
Jean is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Deal Bass (Rodney) and Elizabeth Deal Hooper (Brian); three grandchildren, Matthew J. Bass, Bradley Hooper (Emilie) and Brianna Hooper Baker (Dylan); sister, Kay Pardue Mills; brother, Gray Pardue; along with several nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Jean will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Fellowship Baptist Church with Pastor Beau Mills and Rev. Scott Jeffreys officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bradley Hooper, Matthew Bass, Dylan Baker, Rodney Bass, Brian Hooper, and Duke Mills.
