Susan Raymer Fanjoy

August 20, 1956 — February 26, 2026

Statesville

Susan Raymer Fanjoy, 69, of Statesville, passed away peacefully at her home on February 26, 2026 surrounded by her beloved family.

Susan was born August 20, 1956 in Statesville, to the late Ray Davidson Raymer and Joyce Saunders Raymer. She attended Statesville schools and graduated from Statesville High School as a member of the Class of 1974. She attended St. Mary’s School in Raleigh for two years and went on to earn her degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1978. She fell in love in the 10th grade with her Will, William Allen Fanjoy, whom she married in 1980. Theirs was a love story for the ages – they were each other’s first date, each other’s one and only love, each other’s biggest fan, and each other’s best friend. Married for 45 years, they seemed to grow more in love every day; Susan cherished her “Will” and Will cherished his “Ace”!

Susan and Will had three children: Laura Fanjoy Milone (Carmine), Mary Margaret Fanjoy Furrow (Michael) and Thomas Alison Fanjoy II (Ashley) and seven grandchildren whom they adored: Mary Margaret, Teddy and Belle Milone, Mattie and Sadie Furrow, and William and James Fanjoy. Susan was the happiest being “Mom” and “Susu” – she was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She brought love and laughter to all family occasions; when she was around her family, she exuded pure joy! Her love was unconditional and handed out with a nurturing, forgiving, guiding spirit. Having not been athletically inclined and having married into a very athletic family, she jumped right in with determination, picking up a tennis racket, skis, a pickleball racket and whatever sport the family wanted to take on. On her own, she became a dedicated runner and she could always be seen jogging around the streets of Statesville. She never quite grasped football, but the family had endless fun teasing her about that!

In addition to her family, Susan had a world of friends. Friendship was so important to her, and she was a good and genuine friend to so many.

Susan and Will were lifelong members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Statesville where Susan served in numerous capacities. Both through the church and throughout the community, Susan’s caring spirit was felt as she was always providing meals and seeing to the needs of others.

Susan is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings Nancy Raymer James, Melinda Raymer Howard, Ray Davidson Raymer, Jr, and Anne Raymer Cox, sisters-in-law Laura Fanjoy Daughtrey and Mary Fanjoy Armistead and numerous nieces and nephews who loved Aunt Susan dearly. She will be so missed by all.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 2 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Rev. Brad Mullis will officiate. A private family burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 801 Henkel Road, Statesville NC 28677 or a charity of your choice.
