Steven Karriker

July 17, 1942 - December 23, 2018 Mr. Steven Haywood Karriker, 76, of Troutman, passed away, Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House. He is now spending Christmas at the feet of Jesus. Mr. Karriker was born July 17, 1942 in Iredell County and was the son of the late J.C. Taylor Karriker and Rebecca Roberts Karriker. He graduated from Troutman High School and attended Kings College in Charlotte, NC. He was first married to Shelby Jean Murdock and later remarried Nellie Cook Tucker Karriker of Troutman. He worked for Burlington Industries in Mooresville and later for Thorneburg Hoisery as a Supervisor. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed shooting skeet and was recently inducted into the Skeet Shooting Hall and was recognized as a world champion. He was a member of the Duck Creek Gun Club and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon Brown of Statesville, Susan Privette (Rick) of Hiddenite; one brother, Dennis F. Karriker of Troutman; four grandchildren; four step-children, Jeff Tucker (Teresa), Tim Tucker (Angela), Missy T. Kyles, Bonnie Mayberry (Jerry); 7 step-grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; special caretaker and granddaughter, Jennifer Ostwalt along with two nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry "Scott" Karriker, sister, Cathy K. Taylor and a brother, David Taylor Karriker. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Burgess and Rev. David Troutman officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church. Active pallbearers will be members of the Duck Creek Gun Club and his skeet shooting buddies.
