Skylar Nichole Provenza

With hearts that are shattered yet held by love, we announce the passing of Skylar Nichole Provenza, age 19, who was tragically taken from us far too soon on January 16th, 2026. Though her time here was brief, her impact was immeasurable, and her light will never be forgotten.

Skylar was born on April 18th, 2006. She came into this world just as beautiful as a perfect sunrise. Skylar was a ball of fire, and she loved with so much intention. A natural born leader. So many were drawn to her light, energy, and faith. Skylar was beauty wrapped in kindness, laughter, with a spirit that felt like sunshine. She had a way of making people feel seen and loved, often without saying a word. Her smile could soften the hardest day, and her presence made life feel lighter just by being near. She lived with a rare tenderness and a fierce capacity to love, leaving fingerprints on hearts wherever she went.

Skylar loved being active, some of her best days were spent on the cheer and softball teams with South Iredell High School, where she graduated in 2024. Her tenacity and determination were always present when she was competing.

She embodied beauty and simplicity. She loved all kinds of music, and being present with the people who meant the most to her. Being immersed in nature was one of her favorite experiences, and through her boyfriend, Fletcher, she grew a love for hiking. From the moment she met Fletcher, it was evident they were soulmates. Their love grew deeper daily, they spent their last moments together and now continue their journey eternally.

She not only loved beauty, she loved making people feel beautiful. Her future was bright! Skylar just graduated in Esthetics from Dermacademy and had committed to a position to begin her career at Datre Hair Co. Skylar had an unmatched talent of not only making others shine, but of bringing inner beauty to the surface.

It’s impossible to put into words the love and connection that Skylar’s family had with her. The soul connection with her mother (Shannon Hamrick) is unmatched. Not a day went by that the bond wasn’t felt between them both. Skylar is survived also by her father, Scott Hamrick (Squatchy), whose chosen love and playfulness were apparent to all. Her brother, Braxton Provenza, was her protector (although, Skylar would debate that she was actually the one doing the protecting). Skylar was a hero and built-in best friend to her little sister, McKayla Hamrick.

There are not enough pages to write all of the family and friends whose lives were forever changed by Skylar, and who will miss her so deeply. She was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend, a light, and a gift. Skylar’s absence leaves an ache words cannot fully hold. Though we grieve with a pain that feels impossible, we hold fast to knowing that Skylar is now held completely in the arms of Jesus, where there is no sorrow, no fear, and no goodbye, only peace.

A celebration of Skylar’s life will be held on January 21st at Beulah Baptist Church, Statesville, NC. Friends and family will be received from 11a-1p, with a celebration of life service following. All who knew and loved her are welcome to come and honor the beautiful life she lived.
