Sandra Helen Carter Josey

Sandra “Sandy” Helen Carter Josey, 81, of Statesville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2026. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Born June 14, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Lowtharpe Carter and Margaret Payne Carter. She is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Albert Josey Sr., and siblings Larry Lawrence Carter, Judith “Judy” Carter Pendergrass, and Lonnie “Dennis” Carter as well a niece, Penny Carter Moore and nephew Larry “Lars” Lawrence Carter Jr.

Sandy is survived by her children James “Jamie” Albert Josey Jr. (Melissa Josey) and Cassandra “Candy” Josey Troutman (Stephen Troutman), grandchildren, Ashley Dawn Josey (Bryan Taylor), Caitlin Josey Stephens (Aaron Stephens), Olivia Margaret Troutman, Addison Elizabeth Troutman-Proano (Kevin Proano), and Carter Isabella Troutman, great-grandchildren Ethan Lane Taylor and Maddie Kay Stephens, and countless relatives and loved ones.

Sandy graduated high school from Cool Spring in 1963. Sandy began her career as seamstress at Beautymaid where she met her husband, Jimmy. She later began a career as a waitress in Josey’s Family Restaurant and also worked at Captain’s Galley and Carolina Café for many years. Later, she owned and operated an antique shop, “The Shoppe”, in Downtown Statesville with her husband. She was a devoted member of Abilene Church of Christ, serving as Sunday School teacher for many generations of children.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Abilene Church of Christ with visitation starting at 10:30 AM followed by the funeral service at 12 PM. Sandy loved to feed her loved ones, so all guests are invited to the fellowship hall following the service for lunch and to reminisce.
