Ruth "Laine" (Waugh) Sherrill

Ruth “Laine” Waugh Sherrill, 82, of Statesville, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her home.

Laine was born on November 1, 1938 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Harley Lee Waugh and Daisy G. Benfield Waugh. She and her husband of 61 years, Larry “Tot” Sherrill are both long time members of Bethlehem UMC of Statesville. Laine spent 31 years in the Iredell County School System and volunteered for the Board of Elections.

In addition to her parents, Laine was preceded in death by one son, Larry Craig Sherrill, five sisters, Ruby Shoemaker, Camilla Lofftin, Desolee Lyndsey, Lois Ervin and Betty Pope, and one brother, Dan Waugh.

Along with her husband, Laine is survived by one daughter, Tammy Sherrill, one son, Todd Sherrill (Carolyn), two grandsons, Chris Harris and Adam Harris, four great grandchildren, Brittany Wilson, Grayson Brooks, Skylar Harris, Jaylynn Harris, one brother, James Waugh and extended family, Rusty (Robin), Alex and Andrew Pope.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Bethlehem United Methodist church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Michael Flack officiating.
