Russell Murdock

February 29, 1928 - October 20, 2016 Russell David Murdock, 88, of Troutman, N.C. was taken into the arms of God’s angels to Heaven on Oct 20, 2016. He was born to the late John Carl and Maime Wallace Murdock on Feb. 29, 1928. Russell lived his entire life in Troutman except the two years in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S Siboney. He married Kathleen Powers Murdock in 1950. They were blessed with one daughter, Marsha Dianne, who died at birth and three sons, Bruce Powers Murdock (and wife Cathy), Ricky Murdock, and the late Ronnie Murdock. Kathleen died in 2001. In 2003 he married Patsy Kilpatrick Dison and they enjoyed 13 years of happiness together. Russell spent his entire adult life farming and raising cows, with the exception of a few years at W.R. Grace Company as a shipping foreman. Russell was a lifelong member of Troutman Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, which he loved and was very dedicated. Russell will be greatly missed. His sense of humor was enjoyed by all. In addition to his parents and wife Kathleen, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Hubert, Harry, Roger, JC, Hal, and Grady Murdock. He is survived by his wife, Pat Dison; sister-in-law, Sarah Pope; two brothers, Sheldon and Kennard Murdock, of Troutman; two grandchildren, David Murdock, of Newton, and Krysta and her husband BJ Bickel of Norfolk, VA, and one great-grandson, Graham Bickel. There will be a private interment for the family. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dieter Punt officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.
