Ruby Alexander

Ruby Matheson Alexander, 88, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Lovingly known to all as "Mama Ruby", she was the sweetest mom, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was born in Iredell County on July 3, 1936, to the late Robert Espy Matheson and Annie Bell Gilleland Matheson. She attended Mulberry School and worked in the framing department at Intercraft. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, where she worked with the children. She loved the beach, spending time with her family and her fur babies.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Sonny Matheson, Calvin Matheson, Curtis Matheson, and Herman Matheson, and sisters, Virginia Ladd, and Judy Stewart, as well as her beloved fur baby, Cocoa.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Tony Ray Shook, and Steve Shook; daughter, Teresa Shook Coley; grandsons, Tony Ray Wingler, Andy Shook, and Scott Shook; granddaughter, Chasity Dillard; special fur baby, Cee Cee Ann Shook; great grandchildren, Piper Shook, Asher Shook, Shilo Shook, Emilee Dillard, and Oakley Wingler; goddaughters, Anne Heatwole, and Terri Ward; godson, Mike Moore; special friend, Kelly Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Heaven's gain is our loss.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 1 in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. John Parks officiating.
