Sept. 9, 1932 - June 21, 2013 Roy Lee Christopher, 80, of Statesville passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 9, 1932 in Statesville to the late Roy R. and Beulah Welborn Christopher. Roy served our country honorably as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, serving from 1952 - 1956. At the time of his wife Peggy’s death, they had been married for 60 years. He is survived by his sons, Mike (Pam) Christopher of Union Grove and Jeff Christopher of Statesville; daughter, Tonya (Jeff) Carson of Stony Point; sister, Barbara (Pete) Honeycutt of Troutman; four grandchildren, Jeremiah (Christina) Christopher of Statesville, Robbie Kay (Josh) Taylor of Olin, Adam (Jessica) Christopher and Cody Christopher (fiancé, Kathy McGown), all of Statesville; and four great grandchildren, Eli, Leo, Macey and Miley Christopher. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 p. m. at Troutman Funeral Home. Funeral services to honor the life of Roy Lee Christopher will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Cook officiating. Interment with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail will immediately follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery. At other times, the family will assemble at the home of Mike Christopher in Union Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Marvin United Methodist Church, 671 Marvin Church Ct, Stony Point, NC 28678 or Rocky Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 823 Mountain View Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
