Richard "Dick" C Snyder

June 14, 1934 — December 16, 2024

Atlanta, GA

Richard “Dick” Clifford Snyder, 90 of Dunwoody, Ga., passed away peacefully Monday December 16th, 2024, at his home.

Dick was born June 14, 1934, in Alamance County to the late Robert Clifford Snyder and Pauline Hedrick Snyder. He and his older sister Jeanette grew up with many cousins in North Carolina.

Dick attended Walter M. Williams High School in North Carolina where he focused on playing football with a little studying and worked during the summers at an ice factory.

He went on to attend Catawba College where he met his future bride, Mary Frank (Frankie) Brown. He was a star football player playing both offensive and defensive positions receiving several awards being inducted into the Catawba Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. His athletic skills were noticed by the Chicago Bears who tried to draft him after college.

After college, Dick had a short military stint in the army before moving into the reserves. He then began his career with Southern Bell phone company and retired after 35 years and worked for Shared Technologies for 10 years until he fully retired.

Dick and Frankie had two daughters and moved many times in North Carolina and Georgia for his career before settling in Miami, Florida for over 10 years. While In Miami, Dick enjoyed playing tennis, playing a little golf, and spending time with his family and friends in between traveling for work from Miami to the Florida Keys each week. The family moved back to Georgia in 1981, where Dick finished his career.

Dick will be remembered for his fun-loving personality. He was always the life of the party, the best dancer, and loved to tease his many family and friends. Like his wife, was very fashionable and always wanted to look good. He enjoyed a good meal and especially sweets. His passion for sports continued into retirement with golf becoming his new love over tennis. He joined East Lake and gained a new group of friends to spend his days playing golf, going on golf trips, and watching golf (with some football sprinkled in)! He loved his family – when the kids were growing up, he and Frankie were able to spend summers traveling, relaxing, and doing all the riding of rollercoasters with Susan and Meg. He was also a creature of habit and his children and grandchildren loved to spend time with him disrupting his daily routines and hearing him fuss! (he enjoyed the outings and activities even though he wouldn’t admit it!)  In his last few years, his daughter Meg and her family and Veronica continued to get him out and about even when he protested.

He is survived by his sister, Jeanette Snyder Barker, daughters Meg Snyder Connor; Susan King (Phil); grandchildren Alex (Kelly) and Ella Connor and Jason and Kevin King, nieces and nephews Ben Barker, Dale Barker Stapleton, Sherry Barker; and Lisa Tran (Nate) and Leah (Jason), baby Ryan Hickey. Dad was lovingly cared for by his long-term caregiver and friend Veronica Sarr.

A funeral service will be held Sunday December 22nd at 2:00 pm at Troutman Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a graveside service at New Perth ARP cemetery.  Donations can be made to the East Lake Foundation or Catawba College.
