Richard Edward Houston

Richard Edward Houston, 85, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House.

Born in Iredell County on March 4, 1941, he was the son of the late Don Wesley Houston, Sr., and Ruth Camilla Marlow Houston.

In addition to his parents, Richard was also preceded in death by his wife, Kay Frances Sherrill Houston, who passed away September 1, 2010; his siblings, Don Wesley Houston, Jr., Jerry Eugene Houston, Billy Ray Houston, Ronnie O’Neal Houston and Ricky Lynn Houston.

Richard completed his education at D. Matt Thompson High School and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1961-1964.

He worked for Flav-o-rich and Maola Milk as a milkman for forty years, retiring as a supervisor.

Richard enjoyed taking care of his lawn and he loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Richard Edward Houston, Jr. of Danielsville, GA; his daughter, Angela Houston Hoover (Bryan) of Statesville, NC; his grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Hoover, Patrick Clark Hoover and Sydney M. Houston Vernaglia (Jake) and his great-grandchildren, Rylee Elizabeth Lynch, Auden Jacob Small and Dean Richard Vernaglia.

Richard is further survived by his siblings, Wanda Kay Houston Mull, Linda Faye Houston Scott (Gary), Peggy Marcelene Houston Blackburn (Rick), Sherry Diane Houston Richardson and Tommy Joe Houston.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Monday, October 19, 2026, at Troutman Funeral Home.

The funeral service honoring Richard’s life will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 1:30 PM, with Pastor Dieter Punt officiating at Troutman Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Iredell Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff and doctors of Gordon Hospice House for their exceptional care and support shown to Richard and his family.
