July 27, 1963 - July 3, 2016 Mr. Richard A. Chroust, 52, of Statesville, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016. He was born on July 27, 1963 in Chicago, IL to Richard and Renate Dielmann Chroust. He was a graduate of Forest View High School and attended Central Texas College and IT school in Charlotte. He married Starr Bartlett Chroust in 2008 and deeply loved his children and family. Richard had a passion for serving our country. He served honorably for 20 years in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper and lived all over the country during that time. His service included time spent participating in Operation Desert Storm, the U.S.- Allied liberation of Kuwait. After retiring from the military, his service to our country did not end there. He became an active member of Chapter 15-5 of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association whose mission is to support fellow veterans and a member of the VFW. He had an intense passion for Harleys and enjoyed hunting in his spare time. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his daughters, Sherilyn Chroust of Chicago, IL, Samantha Chroust of Denver, CO and Jessica Chroust of Lacey Springs, AL; stepson, Jordan Crenshaw of Troutman; stepdaughter, Brittani Crenshaw of Statesville; sister, Elizabeth Chroust of Troutman; and special niece, Alexandria Rutkovsky of Troutman. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 1-2:00 p.m. in the Troutman Funeral Home chapel. A memorial service honoring Richard's life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gene Craven officiating. Full military funeral honors will be provided by the Fort Bragg Honors Team military personnel. A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Chapter 15-5, 645 Pressley Road, Suite N, Charlotte, NC 28217.
