Rev. David Thomas Martin

Rev. David Thomas Martin, 76, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

Born in Iredell County on December 26, 1949, he was the son of the late Benjamin Fredrick Martin and Mabel Johnson Martin.

In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by his wife Shirley Jean Souther Martin; daughter, Michelle Renee Martin and brother, Paul Edward Martin.

Rev. Martin graduated from North Iredell High School- Class of 1968; Nashville Diesel College – Class of 1969; Fruitland Bible Institute – Class of 1981 and Campbell University – Class of 1984.

He accepted the call to Gospel ministry and began serving many churches as Pastor in 1977. Some of those churches included Lake Lynn Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC from 1984-1993; Sandy Branch Baptist Church in Bear Creek, NC from 1993-1997; Ham’s Grove Baptist Church from 1997-2006; and served as the Minister of Music at Macedonia Baptist Church from 2007-2017.

David also was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and retired from the Iredell-Statesville Schools after 19 years of service.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Christina Martin Little (Richard “Grumpy”); son, Samuel Davis Martin (Deree); grandchildren, Alexandra M. Goldrick (Tully), Colin M. Parsons, Catherine G. Martin, Audrey L. Martin and Nathan C. Martin; sisters, Patricia Martin Loyd and Martha Martin Childs and brother Larry S. Martin.

The family will receive friends at Troutman Funeral Home, Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
