Rebecca “Becky” Smith, 82, of Statesville, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House.

Becky was born on February 11, 1944, to the late William Roscoe Campbell and Hazel Norton Campbell.

She graduated from Celeste Henkel High School and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. She worked as a medical secretary for Davis Hospital, Piedmont Healthcare and Dr. Ben Bowen.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 23 years, Medford “Ham” Smith; sons, Mike McHargue (Leann) and Brad McHargue (Amy); grandson, Tyler McHargue (Kara); great-granddaughter, Josie McHargue; grandson, Colby McHargue; step-son, Brad Smith (Jamie); step-grandson, Dillon Smith; and special friends, Julia Johnson, Kay Cook, Tommye Ann McNeely and Nancy Lowrance.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 35 years, Gene McHargue, and her sister, Linda Mahaffey.

She had a huge heart and special love for people. She loved working in her flowers, going to the beach, and listening to gospel and classic country music.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Burgess officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Beulah Cemetery.
