Ramona Joyce Hoots Hill, 97, of Statesville NC, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026 surrounded by her family.
Born in Mocksville, NC on March 20, 1929 to parents, William Hobart Hoots, Sr. and Grace Foster Hoots, Ramona was one of six children. She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church for over 70 years and loved her Lydia Ladies Sunday School Class.
Ramona was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, Mamaw, and Nana. She loved spending time with her family, studying her Bible, working crossword puzzles, and watching television. She graduated from Mocksville High School in 1947 and went to work for Western Electric in Winston Salem, NC. She met Raymond Hill, who had returned from serving in the US Army during WWII, and they were married Easter Sunday, April 16, 1949. They were married 48 years before his death in 1997. After raising their four children, Ramona worked at Covenant Child Care Center where she loved caring for little children.
Left to cherish her memory is Dr. Raymond Stephen Hill and his wife Penny, Kristi Hall McClintock and her husband Paul, Kathy Hill Dagenhart and her husband Ray, and Lori Hill Bennett and her husband David. Also surviving are grandchildren Dr. Heather Day, Zebulon Hill, Reagan Hill, William Dagenhart, Samuel Bennett, and Jacob Bennett. Great grandchildren are Sydney Day, Brenden Hill, Ryan Hill, Adeline Hill, Luke Dagenhart, and Bowden Dagenhart.
Ramona is also survived by her dear sister-in-law Mary Belle Johnson of Greensboro and brother-in-law John Loften Hill of Harmony and beloved children and grandchildren in the Winterhalter, Howard, and McClintock families. She is also survived by her very close friend Louise Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Edith Hoots, William Hoots, Ruth Wright, Kathlyn Reavis, and Vernon Hoots. She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter-in-law Annette Johnson Hill and son-in-law Lawrence David Hall.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 28, at 1100 am at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Spry and Rev. Brant Hoots officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 until 11:00 prior to the funeral.
A private burial will follow the funeral service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Zebulon Hill, William Dagenhart, Samuel Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Nathan McClintock, and David McClintock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Western Avenue Baptist Church.
The family is greatly appreciative of the Iredell Memorial Hospital 1 North and Skilled Nursing teams and Hospice of Iredell County.
