Peggy Ann (Joyner) Waugh

Peggy Ann Joyner Waugh, 73, of Statesville, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at her home.

Peggy was born on August 23, 1949, in Statesville to the late A.M. ”Lonnie” and Ozelle Murdock Joyner. She attended Statesville High School, Mitchell Jr College and UNC Chapel Hill. She worked as a teacher at Cool Spring Elementary, Northview Elementary and Broad Street UMC, where she was a member. She married her husband, Harry Lynn Waugh, Jr. on August 30, 1969. Peggy was a past member of retired school personnel and of AAUW, where she also served as president. She found great joy in walking with friends, playing bridge, reading and the Tarheels.

In addition to her husband of fifty-three years, Peggy is survived by her daughter, Lauren A. Waugh (Brett), brother, Henry A. Joyner (Philis), brother-in-law, David Waugh (Linda), nieces, Ann Gray Ray (Larry), Paige Moore and Rebecca Rhodes, nephew, Kenneth Rhodes (Whitney), great nieces, Kyndle Moore, Devin Jones, Sydney Moore and great great nephews, Kalel and Goku Jones. Also surviving are her beloved pets, Remy and Bentley.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2 at 1:00 pm at Broad Street UMC with a family to visit with friends after in the memorial hall. A private family burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery.
