Patricia Smith Broderick

October 4, 1928 - October 13, 2017 Patricia "Patty" Smith Broderick, 89, of Mooresville, passed away on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at Gordon Hospice House. She was born on October 4, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Gerald J. and Sarah Price Smith. Patty was a loving mother and patriot who was Mother Nature’s best friend. She was meticulous in every detail of her life and ever mindful of the needs of others. She was married in 1948 to her late husband, Franklin C. Broderick, Jr. and was a longtime member of the Episcopal church. She joined Rocky Mount UMC in 1980, having joined the Lucy Christie Circle before that. She was employed by Statesville Auto Auction in the 1980’s and then worked for a home builder supply company selling windows, doors, stair parts, etc. Patty served as a volunteer for Iredell County Hospice and Palliative Care and joined Williamson’s Chapel UMC on July 10, 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lynn Broderick, of Raleigh; son, Gerald Scott Broderick and wife, Pattie, of Greenville SC; granddaughter, Emily Christine Mehl; grandson, Clifford Scott Broderick and wife, Angie, who are expecting in November; and great grandsons, Tyler and Cade Mehl. A memorial service will be held at Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Mooresville at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017 with the Rev. Mark Pitts officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow the memorial service at Rocky Mount UMC cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Patty’s memory may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Rd, Statesville, NC 28625 or Williamson’s Chapel UMC, 589 Brawley School Rd, Mooresville, NC 28117. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Gordon Hospice House for the loving care they gave to Patty during her stay there.
