Ms. Pansy Ruth Waugh Mills, 85, of Statesville, passed away December 10, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born in Iredell County on January 5, 1927, the daughter of the late Roy and Bethy Mae Waugh. Pansy was a nurse in the nursing profession who retired from the offices of Drs. Walker & Stegall in Statesville. She served in the Nurse Corps during World War II and was also an alumni of Long’s Hospital. She served in several positions for the alumni association including President. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion in Troutman. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed serving for 20 years in the nursery of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman. Pansy is survived by her son, Alton Dean Mills, of Statesville; daughter, Mary Ruth Mills Hartness (Joe) of Statesville; two brothers, Ray Waugh (Aileen) of Statesville and Max Waugh (Jane) of Troutman; two grandsons, Seth and Samuel Mills; step grandson, Jacob Barringer; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ausby Mills, and her sisters, Vivian Short and Sarah Waugh. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Troutman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman with the Rev. Harvey Mozolak and the Rev. Tim Mills officiating. Interment will be in Iredell Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or the donor’s choice.
