Pamela Sloan Hoover

December 10, 1950 — June 27, 2010

Dec. 10, 1950 - June 27, 2010

Pamela Sloan Hoover passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the age of 59 in Chapel Hill at UNC Hospitals. She was a resident of Troutman. Pam was born on December 10, 1950 in Rowan County to Mr. and Mrs. William Sloan. She was known as Pam to her friends and family. Pam generously served those closest to her at all times, especially when they were in great need. Pam was a member of Fallstown Baptist Church and was active in ministries there until her illness. Pam was known as Mom to her children, Nicole Duncan Battle (husband, Jeff), Christopher Ed Duncan (wife, Jenn), Peggy Raylyn Duncan, and step-children, James Taylor Hoover and Amanda Hoover Collins (husband, Jamie). She was a strong, wise, and loving parent. After her first husband was killed in the line of duty, Pam raised her three children as a single parent for many years. Then in 1994, Pam married JR Hoover (also a widower at the time) who had two children of his own. Pam was known as Nini to her grandchildren, Breanna and Ashley Battle, Nathan Grogan, Deanna, Kristina, and Sara Hoover, a special grandniece Paige Elizabeth Draughn, and many other nieces and nephews. Pam loved all of her little ones, and it was her greatest desire "to be the best Nini a child could ask for, and to be there for each child that came into her heart and home." All the children who knew Pam lovingly called her Nini and her heart embraced them all. Pam is survived by her husband, JR Hoover; her children and step-children; grandchildren; mother, Peggy Gaither Sloan; sister, Susan Fox (husband, Joe); brother, Regie Sloan (wife, Susan); sister, Deborah Sloan; and sister-in-law, Patti Sloan. She was predeceased by her father, W.O. (Bill) Sloan; her brother, Gary Sloan; and her first husband, Patrolman Eddie Duncan. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, at Troutman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Fallstown Baptist Church in Troutman with the Rev. David Troutman officiating. Interment will follow in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery, Statesville. At other times, the family will assemble at 417 Old Mountain Road. Memorials may be made to Fallstown Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1035, Troutman, NC 28166 or Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Melvin Johnson, 363 Pisgah Ridge Circle, Hiddenite, NC.
