Noel Lamar “Butch” Price, 86, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at his home.
Butch was born on July 31, 1939, in Augusta, Georgia, and was the son of the late Macon Lamar Price and Maryan Elizabeth Goodwin Price. He was raised in Holly Hill, South Carolina and he was a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserve. He pursued his education at Richmond Academy, Augusta College, and Clemson University. Following college, work moved him to Abbeville, South Carolina, where he met his beautiful wife before relocating to Statesville in 1971, where he began a distinguished career in telecommunications as an engineer with Burnup & Sims. A man of deep faith, Butch was a devoted and faithful member of First Baptist Church, where he enjoyed worship and fellowship with his church family. He served on numerous committees, was a Sunday School teacher for the Pioneer Class, and he took great pride in being an usher and greeter.
Butch was a devoted Clemson Tigers fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved team. He was a gifted storyteller and could strike up a conversation with anyone willing to listen, often sharing memories from his many travels. Known for his infectious laugh, big smile, and joyful spirit, Butch had a way of making every gathering more enjoyable. He treasured time spent with his family and friends, but his greatest joy came from being with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "B" or "My Butch." His warmth, humor, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish Butch’s memory, is his beloved wife of 60 years, Ruth Eleanor Whaley Price; his daughter, Sherry George (Bryan); son, Todd Price (Kathy); grandchildren, Ellie George, Charlie Price, Eva George, Claire Price, and Sarah Macon George; his brother, Macon Thomas Price.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 2 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Nelson Granade officiating. The family will visit with friends, following the service, at the church in Adams Hall.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County.
Arrangements for Butch Price are in the care of Troutman Funeral Home.
