Nellie Frances (Swicegood) Austin

Mrs. Nellie Austin, 97, passed away on September 5, 2024, at Autumn Care of Statesville. She was born August 18, 1927, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Lonnie and Maud Swicegood. She graduated from Cool Springs High School. On September 4, 1971, she married her husband Robert Austin in South Carolina. She was a faithful member of Western Avenue Baptist Church and worked at JCPenney Distribution Center of Statesville for 28 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Austin. She was also preceded in death by five sisters, Mae S. Deal, Helen G. Graham, Thelma S. Swicegood, Betty Jo Anderson, and Margie L. Peacock and two brothers, Otis Swicegood and Marvin Swicegood. She is survived by one sister, Peggy Redmond of Statesville. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:00am at Iredell Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jeff Spry officiating.
