Michael Gregory “Mike” Morris, age 70, of Statesville, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Catawba County on November 13, 1955, he was the husband of Karen Chapman Morris and the son of the late William Henry Morris Jr and the late Myra Daune Morrow Steelman. He was a 1972 graduate of AL Bown High School and was a member of Mt Nebo Baptist Church in Hiddenite.
Mike retired as a maintenance supervisor with Armstrong Hardwood Flooring. He held degrees in both Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering. Mike was a proud veteran of the US Army. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and spent one tour in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the DAV where he served as commander for four years. Mike was a member of the American Legion Post 65 and served as commander of the post for three years. He served as chairman of the Iredell County Veteran’s Council for four years and was the president of Rolling Thunder Chapter 2 NC for three years. Mike was also a member of the Cool Springs Fire Department for 20 years. In his spare time, he loved to tinker on everything.
Mike is survived by his wife of 3 years, Karen Chapman Morris; and three children, Michael Gregory Morris Jr., Dawn Darnell Morris, and Steve Wesley Morris. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rachel Morris, Steve Morris, Austin Cagle, Olivia Cagle, Michael Morris, Cheyenne Morris, and soon-to-arrive Oliver James Morris along with seven great grandchildren. Three step children, one step granddaughter and a few cousins also survive. In addition to his parents, Mike was also preceded in death by one brother, Roy Steven Dishman.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Hiddenite, NC with Rev. Brian Eades officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at the National VA Cemetery in Salisbury, NC at 2:30 pm with full military honors to be rendered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Mike’s memory to Saving Grace K-9, 760 Sink Farm Rd Lexington, NC 27295.
