Mr. Michael James Haag, 70, of Statesville, passed away, Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House.
Mr. Haag was born April 19, 1948 in Toledo, OH and was the son of the late Gus Haag and Beatrice Haag Grzeszczak. He was a graduate 1966 graduate of Maumee High School and attended Toledo Bible College for 2 years. He worked for TSCO Company and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. On September 12, 1970, he married Sherry Elliott Haag and they were members of Temple Baptist Church. Michael was very active in the church, where he taught Sunday School, Children’s Church, Street Ministry and Bearing Precious Seed. He loved chess and played with people around the world.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by four children, Edward Haag (Jennifer) of Charlotte, Adam Haag (Laura) of Cary, NC, Stephanie Harris of Statesville, Sarah Haag of Statesville; four grandchildren, Nicholas Haag, Christopher Haag, Tiffany Smith, Ridley Haag and one sister, Patricia Haag of Toledo, OH. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Alyssa Harris.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Mitchell officiating. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 12:15-1:45 pm. Burial will follow in the Troutman Historical Cemetery.
