Michael Patrick Engels

Michael Patrick Engels, 63, of Troutman, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 28, 2012. He was born in Thayer, Indiana on March 21, 1949 to the late Everett Peter and Helen Fox Engels. He was the Senior Commander of the Royal Rangers at Rensselaer First Assembly of God in Rensselaer, IN and also at United Faith Assembly of God in Charlotte. In 1985, he moved to Fort Mill, SC and, on April 13, 1996, he married his devoted wife, Mary Dianne. He was a loving husband, father, "paw paw" and step-father who loved life and all of nature’s beauty. He spent the later years of his life raising Black Angus beef cattle and farming with his John Deere equipment and all the manual daily labor required regardless of the weather. He could be seen talking to the cows daily and calling them each by name. His favorite hobby was fishing and he especially enjoyed fishing in Alaska for halibut. He is survived by his wife, Mary Dianne Engels; two sons, Michael K. (Teena) Engels of PA and Mark P. Engels of NC; two step-children, Gwyn (Matt) Ritter and Juston (Jeanie) Hollar, both of NC; four brothers, Bill, Joseph, Tom and Eugene, all of IN; and six grandchildren, Madison, Haleigh, Jiliann and Kameryn Engels of PA and Jackson and Julia Hollar of NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ella Katherine Engels and his "special" Uncle Pete. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Troutman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2012 at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church in Mooresville with the Rev. Jamie Hamrick officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Gary Smith, P. D. Nordman, Wayne Allgood, Shannon McGlamery, Steve Bennett, Jason Goodin and Steven Engels.
