Melvin Eugene Brown, affectionately known as "Butch", 76, of Troutman, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Gordon Hospice House.
He was born September 28, 1940 in Crystal, West Virginia to the late David Brown and Marie Hall Brown.
Butch was the first full time employee of the Town of Troutman. He worked for the Town of Troutman for over 35 years as a Public Work Supervisor and was also in charge of the water maintenance. Butch enjoyed going to the mountains in his free time. He loved spending time with family and friends, and he especially adored the time he spent with his granddaughter, Jaden Lynn Mash. He was always known for his generosity and willingness to give a helping hand to anyone.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Overton Brown; sisters, Linda Bradberry and Jenny Proffit; and brother, Tom Brown.
He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Mash (fiancé, Kenneth Chapman); granddaughter, Jaden Lynn Mash; brothers, Terry Brown (Jewell) of S.C. and Johnny Brown (Pat) of Troutman; sister-in law, Sharon Brown; brother-in-laws, Fred Bradberry and R.C. Proffit, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by many other extended family members, including the entire Spaulding and Robinson families.
The family will receive friends at Troutman Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Kevin Richardson officiating. The committal will immediately follow the service at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Chapman, David Saleeby, Todd Hardy, Wayne Robinson, Larry Robinson and Chad Mash.
