Melanie Jeanene Schahl

Melanie Jeanene Schahl, 65, of Statesville, NC, formerly of Lake Fork, IL, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Melanie was born on July 3, 1960, in Lake Fork, IL, and was the daughter of Robert and Jeanette Gaffney Schahl.

Melanie is survived by her loving partner of 27 years, Jeff Hager; a sister, Rebecca Diane Setzer of Jacksonville, FL; two nephews, Andy Awe of Texas, and Alex Pepmeyer of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Mark Awe.

Melanie graduated from Mt. Pulaski High School in Mt. Pulaski, IL. She worked at Franklin Life/American General in Illinois. She was working at Engage 2 Excel prior to her death.

Melanie loved to cross-stitch and watch the Cooking Channel. She had several indoor cats, and she loved and cherished each one. She was a wonderful daughter, partner, sister and friend to all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel in Troutman, NC, on Sunday, April 12 at 2:00 pm. Per her wishes, she will be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Iredell County,
