Mary Lois Conger Whitener, 91, of Troutman, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
She was born in Statesville, NC on August 16, 1926 to the late Fred Hudson Conger Jr. and Nina Mae Shives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, Willis Brantley Whitener.
Mary was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School in 1944. She had a passionate heart for others and generously spent her time volunteering. She began and coordinated the monthly blood pressure clinic and diabetes screening at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Statesville. She was a Pink Lady at Iredell Memorial Hospital for 20 years. Mary also had a "green thumb" and loved gardening flowers.
Mary is survived by a son, David Willis Whitener; daughters, Janice (John) Larew and Linda Franklin; grandchildren, Brantley Larew, Jason Franklin, and Mark Franklin; and three great-grandchildren, Lillian, Piper, and John Kasay Franklin. She will be dearly missed by all.
A graveside service will be held at Iredell Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 with Rev. Jeff Hamrick officiating.
