Mary Sue Cook

Mary Sue Connolly Cook, 95, of Statesville, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Gordon Hospice House.

Mary Sue was born on October 10, 1929, to the late Cyrus Watt Connolly and Daisy Lee McLain Connolly. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church of Hiddenite.

Mary Sue loved to play horseshoes and bingo, going fishing, doing yardwork, and growing flowers.

In addition to her parents, Mary Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, JL “Junior” Cook; a granddaughter, Angela Belcher; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gail Cook; brothers, Durant Connolly and Junie Connolly; and a sister, Eula Harris.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jimmy Lynn Cook (Sherry); daughter, Kathryn Talley (Esker); son, Roger Dale Cook (Phyllis Callahan); six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Louise Adams.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Fairview Baptist Church in Hiddenite, NC, with Rev. Durant Barr officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Mountain View Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Lynn Cook, Shane Harris, James Belcher, Mike Pennell, Craig Pennell and Mike Talley.

Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County.
