Mary Martha (Harris) Smith

Mary Martha Harris Smith, 85, of Charlotte, formerly of Statesville, passed away, Friday, March 1, 2019 at Waltonwood Assisted Living.

Mrs. Smith was born December 30, 1933 in Steele, MO and was the daughter of the late Arnold Victor Harris and Lula Mae Bowen Harris. She was a graduate of Steele High School in Missouri and on April 26, 1952 she married James “Jim” Elbie Smith. She was an active member of Northview Church of Christ and showed her love of the Lord through her service and support of the church. She raised four children by herself while Mr. Smith was serving in the US Navy. She loved gardening, cooking and serving other people.

In addition to her husband of 66 years, she is survived by four children, Cathy S. Thompson (David) of Charlotte, Gary S. Smith (Kim) of Auburn, CA, Mark A. Smith (June) of Statesville, Pamela S. Henderson (Tony) of Murfreesboro, TN; 12 grandchildren, Amanda Hiers, Andy Smith, Bryan Smith, Emily Fuller, Dustin Thompson, Josh Henderson, Ashley Alonzo, Jessica Henderson, Drew Thompson, Luke Smith, Shelby Smith, Sophie Smith; eight great grandchildren and one sister, Janet Buie (Don) of Mooresville.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Northview Church of Christ with Minister Les Bonnett and Gerald Boan officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. before the funeral. A private family burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday in Oakwood Cemetery.
