Mrs. Mary Szabo Saia, 92, of Troutman, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
She was born on June 25, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Veronica and Vincent Szabo.
A loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was a homemaker who loved life. She was married to the late Anthony Saia for 38 years and especially enjoyed the outdoors, being with her family and going out to eat. She always set aside one day each week for herself and took pleasure in having her hair styled on those days.
Mrs. Saia is survived by her sons, Robert A. Saia of Troutman and Richard A. (Joanie) Saia of Mint Hill; grandchildren, Max, Samantha, and Tony Saia, Carol Sanderson, and Susan Darmody; five great grandchildren; special nieces, Anita Mazzone and Rachael (Frank) Suraci; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Warren Saia, and brothers, Vincent and Frank Szabo.
The family will receive friends from 9 - 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Troutman Funeral Home. A funeral mass for Mrs. Saia will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville with the Rev. Dominic Totaro, S.J. officiating. Interment will follow the service in Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Weddington.
The family wishes to thank her two very special caregivers, Angie Link and Kristy Ball, as well as her caregivers from Hospice of Iredell County and her doctors and nurses.
