Mary Ann Pence

Mary Ann Pence 65, of Statesville, passed away peacefully at her home on May 25, 2026. Born on January 11, 1961, to the late William H. Summers and Betty Ruth Morrison Summers.

Cherishing her memory are her two daughters, Mary Beth Tomlin of Statesville and Kristy L. Pavelock (Ricky) of Fernandina Beach, FL, along with her six beloved grandchildren: Riley, Peyton, Paige, Cory, Emmy, and Trip. She is also survived by two brothers Billy Summers (Pam) of Stony Point and Jeff Summers (Mary) of Statesville.

Mary Ann was an active member of Concord Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and played handbells. A graduate of West Iredell High School, she performed as a majorette in the school band and often showcased her vocal talents as a soloist. Her love for singing extended to sharing songs of praise and worship with her church community.

In her childhood, Mary Ann enjoyed spending time at her grandmother Lillian’s house, climbing trees, and playing in the woods. Some of her happiest memories were summer vacations at Cherry Grove Beach. She loved swimming, water skiing, and deep-sea fishing. After high school, she pursued a career in cosmetology and successfully opened her own salon, working as a hairstylist for many years.

Mary Ann will be remembered as a free spirit who lived life on her own terms. Despite facing numerous challenges, including raising two teenagers while battling prolonged illness, she embraced each new day as a blessing. Her strength, gratitude, and resilience defined her character.

She will be remembered as a loving mother and friend, celebrated for her admirable spirit and perseverance.

Anyone wishing to express condolences to the family may do so on Sunday, May 31 at Troutman Funeral Home from the hours of 2:00 to 4:00pm. A private service will be held by the family at a later date.
