Mary Louise Alderman Johnson, 81, of Statesville, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026.
Mary Louise, the daughter of Enoch Wells Alderman and Louise Godwin Alderman, was born March 23, 1944, in Clinton, North Carolina. She attended Clinton city schools and graduated from North Carolina Western College. Following graduation, she worked for the Departments of Social Services in Cumberland County, Rowan County, and Iredell County. She was the director of the newly established Western Avenue Baptist Church Child Development Center in the early 1970s and later was a teller with Northwestern Bank. Following fifteen years of employment with BB&T and twenty years employment with Mitchell Community College, she retired from full-time employment at Mitchell in 2007 and continued to work at Mitchell on a part-time basis for many years.
In June 1966, Mary married Charles Henry Johnson III “Buddy”, and then they moved from Fayetteville, NC to Statesville in 1968. Mary is survived by her husband, their daughter, Emily Alderman Johnson Parker, and grandsons, Jack and Finn.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Parker.
Mary was a member of the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Statesville, where she served in the Women’s Ministries and was a member of the choir.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 26 at First ARP Church, with Rev. Ryan Gladden officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Burial will be at a later date in the Clinton City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First ARP Church, 123 East Broad Street, Statesville NC 28677.
