Martha Rhyne (Ostwalt) Benfield

Mrs. Martha Rhyne Ostwalt Fox Benfield, 79, of Statesville, passed away, Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice Hospice.

Mrs. Benfield was born July 19, 1939 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late E. Hoyle Ostwalt and Annie Rogers Ostwalt. She graduated from Troutman High School, class of 1957 and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She first married the late Charles Melvin Fox, Sr. and later married the late Gary N. Benfield. Her career in banking spanned 45 years, starting with Merchants and Farmers Bank, then NCNB and later as Branch Manager of First Charter until her retirement.

She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Fox of Statesville, one son, Charles M. “Chuck” Fox of Statesville; two grandchildren, Timothy Fox and fiancée, Cynthia, Tyler Atkins (Amanda) and three great grandchildren, Layton Fox, Jaylynn Atkins and Camden Atkins.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 15, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Eanes officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday evening 7:00-9:00 pm at Troutman Funeral Home.
