Maria Thompson

April 4, 1959 - July 24, 2017 Maria Mercedes Spinoso Thompson, 58, of Troutman, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 24, 2017 after fighting a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Maria was born on April 4, 1959 in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. Maria dedicated much of her life to education. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from LSU and worked as a CPA. She enjoyed teaching at Third Creek Elementary for over 10 years and also taught ESL at Mitchell Community College in Mooresville. She will always be remembered for being a loving and caring person. She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Tommy Thompson; mother, Josefina Spinoso; son, David Thompson, sisters, Josie Spinoso, Delfie (Dell) Oliver, and Angie (Chris) Beauregard. She was preceded in death by her father, Jose G. Spinoso. A celebration of life service will be held at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Jamie Hamrick officiating and Chase Walden delivering the eulogy. A visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria’s memory may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 Troutman Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Maria Thompson.
