Lue Gene Shew

Lue Gene Shew, 81, of Hudspeth Road, Statesville, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wilkes County on March 22, 1931 to the late Vernon and Vera Pendergrass Shew. He served our country honorably in the Korean War and was retired from Southern Screw after approximately 30 years of service. He had a great love for hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Souther Shew, of the home; two daughters, Jackie Keller (Jerry) and Melody Upright (Allen); two sons, Vernon Shew and Melvia Shew (Kay); four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Tommy Shew (Mildred) and Dallis Shew (Lovina). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert and Bob Shew. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012 in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Glen Inscore officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 100, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 and to the American Cancer Society, 500 Morehead Street, Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202.
