Louise (Brown) Smith

Louise Brown Smith, 91, of Statesville, passed away, Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House.

Mrs. Smith was born November 2, 1927 in Statesville, NC and was the daughter of the late Lee Columbus Brown and Nellie Blye Lackey Brown. She was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School, class of 1945 and was married to the late Harold Austin Smith, who passed away in 2006. She was a member of First ARP Church in Statesville, where she was a member of the church circle #2, member of the Walker Sunday School Class, helped with church bulletins and served on the hospitality committee. In 1990 she retired from J.C. Penny Distribution Center after a 41 year career. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 15 years, where she and Sarah Adams delivered meals.

Louise is survived by her sister, Doris Brown Crawford (Nathan) of Huntersville and several nieces and nephews; Donna Skeen of Murrell’s Inlet, SC, Lee C. Brown, III of MA, Carole  Love of Matthews, NC, Tom Brown of Blacksburg, VA, Becky Temple of Sunset Beach, NC, Tricia Goff of Pfafftown, NC, Mike Cowan of Charlotte, Ben Cowan of Harrisburg, Dr. John T. Crawford of Charlotte, Dr. Charles L. Crawford of N. Augusta, SC, Sara Brown of Spartanburg, SC and Randall Lowery of Statesville.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Brown Clement, Virginia Brown Cowan and two brothers, Lee. Brown, Jr. and James Thomas Brown.

Funeral services will be held 3:00pm Sunday, October 13, 2019 at First ARP Church in Statesville with Rev. Phillip McCoy officiating. Private family burial will be held Monday morning at Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
